This cartoon graphic from the U.S. reflects the growing concern at the time, especially among the business community, that Russia might come to dominate all of Asia. There was no corresponding fear of Japan doing so--at least not at the start of the Russo-Japanese War. Almost as soon as the war was over, however, Japan increasingly became a menace or potential menace in U.S. eyes.
