At right is a composite image consisting of several scenes from Chinese erotic literature and novels (in late imperial China many mainstream novels were erotic literature).

The painting below is most likely a brothel scene, and it is an erotic image. The man has removed the woman's shoe and is fondling her bare foot. The removed shoe now serves as a wine glass, and it appears as if the man is about to take a sip. Overall, this scene depicts the ultimate erotic thrill for well-to-do men in late imperial China. The clothing here suggests a Ming dynasty setting, though the image itself comes from the Qing dynasty.
